This is the trip for riders who like a little bit of everything - see the best of Japan by paved road, gravel, and dirt.
First, we'll have road and hybrid bikes for you to enjoy the zen paved mountain roads of Nagano. Stop by at quaint villages, connect with locals, and get a taste of the amazing rice, wasabi, fruits, and vegetables that are grown here, in the heartland of Japan.
Then, in the middle of our trip, choose one or two days of MTB adventure. Swap out your skinny tires for a bike that's built to take on the dirt tracks of Hakuba Valley! We'll get you fully equipped for downhill dirt - a totally different kind of thrill. The trails in Iwatake Mountain Bike Park have a variety of options for beginners, intermediate, and advanced MTB riders, so this is a great option for youngsters and first-timers as well as MTB veterans.
Finally, end the week by tackling the epic climb up Norikura-dake, Japan's highest road. With sweeping views of the the Japanese Alps and rice fields all the way up to high volcanic landscapes, uncover breathtaking views around every switchback. Enjoy the culture, natural splendor, and alpine climate of Japan's high mountain region - Nagano Prefecture!
Itinerary
Our team will be at Nagano Station to welcome you to this amazing corner of Japan. Nagano is easily reachable - only 1.5 hours direct Shinkansen from Tokyo Station - but feels like a world away from the busy city streets of Tokyo. Once we get set on bikes, we'll ride away from the city and directly towards the mountains on bike paths and small streets. Rolling up and down the foothills of the Japanese Alps, we will eventually reach Hakuba Village, a gorgeous valley town that hosted many events during the 1998 Winter Olympics.
