Japanese Alps Tour

Staying in Shinjuku or Matsumoto

For this tour we highly recommend spending the night before tour in Matsumoto City if you are coming from Tokyo or anywhere with longer than a 2hr transfer. From Tokyo’ Shinjuku Station the Chuo Express leaves roughly every hour and takes 2h40 to Matsumoto Station.

Even if you just take the train out the evening before, we find most guests prefer this option for this tour.

For this tour we recommend staying in Onomichi or very near the bullet train station in Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka, Okayama, Fukuyama or Himeji.

For simplicity we will only recommend hotels in the Onomichi area. Thank you for your understanding.

Self-Guided Tours (Kiryu or Ashikaga Start/Finish)

For most all of our self-guided tours we will start from Shin-Kiryu or Ashikaga-Shi Station on the Tobu Ryomo Line that leaves Tokyo from Asakusa, Kita-Senju, or Tokyo Skytree Stations.

Therefore, typically the easiest place to stay the day before your trip in Tokyo is Asakusa area, which is also a great place to explore in the city. Altenatively, you can take the train out to Kiryu or Ashikaga the day before, and we can arrange meeting up the following morning on the first day of your tour.
