How to Measure Your Inseam for a Better Bike Fit
Getting the right bike setup starts with a few simple measurements, and one of the most useful is your inseam.
Your inseam helps determine an appropriate bike size and gives a good starting point for saddle height. Measuring it at home only takes a few minutes.
What You’ll Need
You’ll need a hardcover book, a measuring tape, a flat wall, and a small piece of tape or pencil.
For the most accurate result, measure barefoot or in thin socks.
Step 1: Stand Against the Wall
Stand upright with your back against a flat wall and your feet slightly apart.

Step 2: Position the Book
Place the book between your legs and raise it firmly against your crotch, similar to the pressure you would feel sitting on a bicycle saddle.
Keep the book level and flat against the wall.

Step 3: Mark the Height
While keeping the book in place, mark the wall at the top edge of the book.
A small piece of removable tape works well and makes the mark easy to see.

Step 4: Measure from the Floor
Step away from the wall and measure straight up from the floor to your mark.
That number is your inseam measurement.

Double-Check Your Measurement
It’s a good idea to measure twice to make sure you get a consistent result.
Record your measurement in centimeters (cm).
Why Inseam Matters
Height alone doesn’t always tell the full story when it comes to bike fit. Two riders of the same height can have very different leg lengths.
Your inseam provides a better indication of the frame size and saddle height that may suit you, helping create a more comfortable and efficient riding position.
A small measurement now can make a big difference once you’re on the bike.
